First steps in the army
In 1983, new officer shoulder straps shone with gold on the shoulders of the former cadet of the school. Upon arrival at his duty station in the Pskov region, he assumed command of the reconnaissance platoon of the 76th Airborne Division. Serdyukov's ambitious plans extended to further command positions, but his military career provided for additional education. After this story, the Union of Russian paratroopers appealed to President Medvedev and Patriarch Kirill with a request not to leave this situation unattended and to intercede for Colonel Andrei Krasov. Representatives of the army customer and military representatives, I think, not disinterestedly, turned a blind eye to this. Research carried out by specialists has shown that these parachutes cannot be used ”... As it turned out, this is far from an isolated case, and that in a similar way, for fabulous money, the troops received defective body armor, decommissioned ammunition and parts for helicopters and aircraft.
A number of State Duma deputies in an open letter to the president demanded the immediate resignation of Anatoly Serdyukov, who with his reforms only destroys the country's defense capability. The letter also said about the immediate plans of the Ministry of Defense, according to which in three years the Ground units will be reduced by 12 times, the Air Force-Air Defense and the Navy by 2 times, the Strategic Missile Forces by a third, and the Airborne Forces by 20 percent.
“The actual rout of the General Staff continues, which will also be more than halved. Experts are outraged by this rush. For three years, it is planned to reduce more than 2,000 parts and formations of our Armed Forces... No other country in the world has known such rates of “circumcision”.
Information about personnel reshuffles in the War Department began to appear in the press. So, instead of Colonel-General Viktor Vlasov, head of the Quartering and Arrangement Service, Colonel-General Viktor Vlasov, who committed suicide in 2008 (according to some reports, this happened a couple of days after the conversation with Serdyukov), the head of a construction company from St. Petersburg Leonid Sorokko was appointed to this position. Their qualifications raises great doubts, but this does not prevent them from making statements about the need to privatize most of the facilities of the RF Armed Forces in Moscow. The rest of the military departments were no more fortunate, and soon the so-called "St. Petersburg" ones also appeared in them. The program for the privatization of military facilities of the Ministry of Defense throughout Russia was headed by the former top manager of the Lenstroyrekonstruktsiya corporation Lev Vinnik and the general director of the St. Petersburg defense plant Leninets, Alexander Gorbunov. Such attention and requests for furniture from the head of the Ministry of Defense is not accidental. After graduating from the Leningrad Institute of Trade, Serdyukov in the period from 1984 to 1985 served in the ranks of the Soviet Army. True, for some unknown reason, he served only a year and a half instead of the prescribed two years - and this is the entire military experience of the Minister of Defense of a nuclear power.
After the army, Serdyukov began to work in the Lenmebeltorg store No. 3, which in 1986 changed its sign to "Dresden" and began selling furniture from the GDR. Moreover, according to the recollections of eyewitnesses, Serdyukov was in charge of the wall department in the store. By the way, the store was famous not only in Leningrad, but throughout the Union - it was very difficult to get scarce, and even imported furniture at that time. However, "Dresden" did not work for long, and after the unification of Germany it ceased to exist.
However, Serdyukov, apparently, liked working in the furniture business so much that until 2000 he was the general director of Mebel-Market JSC.
