How to install a faucet in the kitchen: the installation process on the sink with your own hands. How to properly install a faucet in a bathroom How to attach a faucet to a sink

The variety of models, shapes, types and functional features often confuses buyers when selecting plumbing fixtures for the bathroom and kitchen. The problem of choice often becomes more complicated when you need not only to choose wisely, but also to independentlyinstall a faucet in the kitchen.

The choice depends only on the preferences of the owners

To replace an old faucet with a new one, there is no need to invite a specialist if the pipework does not require repair - modern products are equipped with a full set of all gaskets and fasteners. It is more difficult to choose the right model: the amount of time that will have to be spent on installation and the durability of the mixer depend on the quality of the material, the strength of the parts and compatibility with the internal wiring.

How to choose the right kitchen faucet

The first question that requires a precise answer: how and where you have to install a faucet in the kitchen. If the kitchen is new, the furniture is assembled to order, then the sink is selected in accordance with the project, complete with a mixer. To replace old plumbing in the kitchen, you will have to take into account the following features:

  • Depth, type of sink, sink.

deep sink

  • Drain location.
  • Location, diameter of the hole for inserting the mixer.
  • Distance from the tap hole to the wall.

The mixer can be mounted not only on a horizontal surface

Design features of different types of mixers

The most convenient for kitchen use are single-lever mixers. Setting the temperature and water pressure is done by smoothly moving one lever. Such models are especially convenient, because to turn the lever you do not need to wrap your hand around the faucet; you just need to turn the handle with your finger or the side of your palm - you will have to clean the shiny surface from dirt less often.

Single lever products with flexible retractable hose

Two-valve systems are classic mixers with two shut-off elements in the form of valves. Hot or cold water is connected to each outlet. To obtain a jet of the required power and temperature, you need to turn both taps. Forsink installations These are the faucets in the kitchen chosen only if the style of the room and furniture requires it. Manufacturers produce two-lever models in retro style: made of copper, a combination of copper with ceramic taps. The products also require special care: special products are used for cleaning. The cost of such models is an order of magnitude higher than single-lever models.

Impractical, but stylish: faucets, sinks made of copper, stone, bronze

Sensory products are produced in different shapes and colors. These models are not equipped with mechanical rotary valves at all. Photocells built into the spout react to the appearance of a hand under the tap, and the water turns on automatically. Before use, the mixer is programmed: the temperature and pressure are set. If it is necessary to change the water temperature, the mixer will be reprogrammed. Advantages of touch models: ease of use, because you don’t need to touch the faucet with a dirty hand, precision of settings. Disadvantage: photocells power batteries, replacement must be on hand. If the battery runs out, it will be impossible to turn on the water.

Just touch or place your hand under the tap to turn on the water

How to choose the right faucet for the kitchen

The cost of plumbing depends on the material of manufacture. Budget faucets made of soft alloys, such as silumin, look attractive, but have the shortest service life. Put it like this faucet in the kitchenwhere you constantly cook and use the sink to wash dishes 3-4 times a day, it’s not worth it. In faucets made of inexpensive alloys, threaded connections quickly fail: silumin crumbles and cracks under load. The only repairable parts are gaskets. If the parts break down, it is not possible to repair the parts; you have to replace the entire mixer.

Silumin is easy to distinguish by the color of the alloy: the surface is gray

More durable plumbing products are made from brass and other durable alloys. Brass is highly durable: such taps practically do not break, only replaceable consumables fail - membranes, O-rings, gaskets. The finishing coating imitates chrome (glossy and matte), aluminum, nickel.

Brass looks nice and is quite durable

Owners of sinks made of stone (natural and artificial) can choose models made of alloy with a decorative coating that imitates the color and texture of the sink, or products made of the same material. The cost of non-standard faucets is higher than conventional steel ones.

Granite and artificial stone

After choosing the type and material, you can select a faucet that will ideally suit your kitchen sink. Compare the diameter of the hole and the size of the faucet mounting block: the block must completely cover the hole.

The next step is choosing the length and height of the spout. The length of the spout should be equal to half the length of the bowl. Ideally, the stream from the spout hits the center of the drain. The height of the spout should be sufficient to allow a tall pan to be placed in the sink. You should not choose a rise that is too high, because the higher the height of the water fall, the more splashes scatter throughout the kitchen.

Rational decision -install a faucet in the kitchenwith flexible pull-out spout. The hose with the nozzle is pulled out of the mixer in one movement and allows you to draw water into a container outside the sink.

Another important technical nuance is the angle of rotation of the spout. For sinks installed close to the wall, it is enough to choose a model with the ability to rotate up to 90 O . If attaching the mixer to car wash with two bowls provided in the middle of the jumper, it is better to choose a spout that rotates 180 - 360 O .

The practicality and ease of use of the device depends on the available rotation angle.

The procedure and technique for installing faucets in the kitchen

Before starting installation, you must check the completeness of the purchased product. If you choose a budget option, it is better to purchase a high-quality set of rubber parts and replace the factory gaskets before installation - there is a better chance that they will not have to be replaced in a month.

Preparation: what tools and supplies are needed

To how to install a kitchen faucetas quickly as possible, you need to prepare:

  • Screwdrivers: regular flathead and Phillips, pliers.
  • Adjustable wrench or wrenches selected according to diameter.

Materials for installing the mixer

  • If the sink is not equipped with a hole for installation, you need to purchase a metal cutter that screws onto an electric drill.
  • Sealant and linen thread, alternative - FUM tape.
  • Flexible hoses, if the mixer is not equipped with a connection.
  • WD 40 or any similar spray: useful for unscrewing stuck hoses and connections without damaging the threads.

The thin spout makes it easy to apply a sufficient amount of spray to hard-to-reach places

  • Rags and a small container, cardboard.

It is advisable to lay out the new disassembled faucet on a cloth, and cover the floor in the work area with thick cardboard - if a heavy metal object falls, it can chip the tiles on the floor.

Removing the old tap and hoses

Before installation, it is necessary to get rid of water in the pipes. If the internal wiring is equipped with shut-off valves for each point, then it is enough to turn off the taps on the pipe under the sink. In apartments with old wiring, sometimes it is necessary to block off the entire riser.

The water must be turned off

After this, you need to open the tap and wait until all the water drains. To remove the sink or sink, you need to unscrew the connecting supply flexible hoses from the pipes. If the faucet has not been replaced for several years, then the joints will have to be treated:

  • Sticky threads are generously moistened with kerosene or treated with WD 40 spray.
  • After 5 - 20 minutes you can begin to unscrew the hoses. It is advisable to cover the floor with a rag, and place a small container under the hoses for residual water.

Stuck nuts must not be unscrewed with force.

If the sink or sink you needinstall a mixer, is not sealed, it is better to dismantle it. The sink is turned over - this makes it easier to unscrew and remove the tap. To remove the mixer from the hole, unscrew the connecting pin nut with an adjustable wrench, then remove the mixer.

It's easier to work if you can remove the sink

The installation hole is cleaned of rust and dirt. Pre-try on the new mixer. If necessary, the diameter of the installation hole is expanded. The insertion site is degreased with alcohol.

Installation and checking the tightness of connections

How correctly and reliablyinstall a faucet on a kitchen sink? Nothing complicated - the whole process takes no more than an hour and consists of 4 simple steps.

The procedure for installing the mixer on the sink:

  • A sealant must be put on the threaded base - a rubber ring, which must be tightly secured in a special groove. The mixer is installed with a threaded block into the hole.

  • A rubber sealing gasket is placed on the bottom of the mixer installed in the hole.

Material for installing the mixer

  • Tighten the fixing nut. Use pliers or an adjustable wrench. The threads are not clamped with force; first check to see if the sealing gaskets have moved.

Sometimes the kit includes 2 clamping nuts with pins

  • Check for immobility and correct installation. The position can be adjusted by loosening the nut slightly.

Hoses connected to the displacer

Hoses are connected to the installed mixer. Usually the set contains two hoses that are suitable for both cold and hot water. If there is a separate hose in the kit for hot water, it should be specially marked. One of the hoses is equipped with a long fitting, the second – with a short one.

First, install the liner with a shortened fitting. Tighten the nut with a wrench, being careful not to damage the thread. There is no need to additionally insulate the incoming pipes and fittings - there are factory seals. The long fitting is connected next. The main thing at this stage is not to overtighten the nut, so as not to damage the rubber gasket and threads.

Hoses do not need to be insulated at the top connections

The next step is to install the sink or sink on the countertop. After fixing the sink, begin connecting the hoses to the pipe. Threaded pipe fittings are pre-cleaned and insulated. There are 2 winding methods:

  1. A thin layer of paste-like sealant is applied to the threads, and linen thread is wound on top.
  2. Winding tape roll waterproof sealant. The tape is wound overlapping, trying to avoid kinks.

Easier to use tape

The hoses are connected to the pipe and clamped with an adjustable wrench. Adjust the clamp using force: the force should be medium. After completing the work, turn on the water. Monitor the tightness of all connections for several minutes.

Video: installing a mixer with a countertop mount

There is nothing difficult about install a new faucet on a new sink – if there is a hole for tapping and the pipework is in excellent condition. Without certain skills, it is difficult to cope when difficulties arise during the installation process: you need to adjust the diameter of the mortise hole, it is impossible to unscrew old hoses, or you need to install on a difficult surface, as in the video:

To install expensive products, it is better to invite a professional, because minor mistakes - too much or too little clamping force, incorrect application of sealant, incorrect position of the upper part of the mixer during installation - can lead to breakage of the mixer or cause a leak that is difficult to fix with your own hands.

Installing a faucet in the bathroom: 5 possible problems on the way to achieving your goal

Installing a faucet in the bathroom is not a difficult task, but it is very important. And during its implementation, a whole string of various difficult situations may arise. In order for you to understand what you may encounter, as examples, I will introduce you to the problems that I had the opportunity to solve.

Problem #1: choosing a new device

Before installing a faucet in the bathroom, you need to buy it. It seemed like nothing complicated, but when I went to a plumbing store, I changed my mind about this. I’ll try to make the task a little easier for you and describe the main criteria that you should pay attention to:

Material

In general, the materials for the faucet can be steel, glass, fiberglass, ceramics, plastic and even granite. But the most popular are the following two options:

  1. Brass. A brass device has a decent weight and a relatively high cost, but it has high strength properties and excellent resistance to various types of chemical influences. Having made such a purchase, you do not have to worry that the thread will crack during the process of tightening the nuts, and the gib will break off as a result of careless handling;
  2. Silumin. It is a very cheap alloy of aluminum and silicon. Models made from it are light and fragile. Such a choice cannot be called reliable; by making it, you may end up not saving, but, on the contrary, ending up with even greater costs;

Externally, brass and silumin models can be very similar. To distinguish them, just pick them up and try them by weight. The heavy product is brass, the light product is silumin.

Control

Here you also have to make a choice in accordance with your financial capabilities and preferred functionality:

  1. Two valves. Just recently, this tap water mixing system had no competition at all. In it, each water pressure is provided with its own axle box, with the help of which its intensity is regulated. Replacing such parts in the event of their failure is easy to do with your own hands. Also, the advantages include lower cost and compliance with the classic style. The downside is the complexity of control, which eliminates the possibility of setting a weak flow of the desired temperature and requires the use of two hands;

  1. One lever. Here, the connection of different water flows occurs using a special cartridge, which is easily controlled by just one movement of the hand. These are the models that are the most popular today due to the optimal balance between ease of use and price. By the way, I also settled on this option;

If you want to use water more economically, I recommend buying a two-stage model. In it, up to a certain moment, as long as the water pressure is not too strong, the lever moves easily; in order to open the tap completely, you will need to make a noticeable effort.

  1. Thermostatic control. One knob is responsible for the pressure force, the other for its temperature. Although such a system is not cheap, it completely eliminates the possibility of burns, which is of no small importance if children live in a home;

  1. Contactless control. In this case, to turn on the device, you just need to bring your hands to it, after which the infrared sensors will do everything necessary. But you should remember about the high cost of such equipment and the need to regularly replace batteries.

Geometric dimensions

The height can be adjusted during installation, if, of course, you are doing it from scratch. If replacement occurs, then be guided by the location of the old device. But pay attention to the length of the spout so that flowing out of it the water did not splash against the side of the bathtub, and at the same time, so that he himself did not interfere with your stay in it.

Problem #2: Having the necessary inventory

For me, this, in fact, was not a problem, since I always try to keep my workshop as complete as possible. But I advise everyone else, before installing any plumbing fixture, not just a faucet, with your own hands, check that you have the following tools and materials on hand:

Problem #3: preparing the installation site

Now, before placing the faucet in the bathroom, you need to properly prepare the place for it. There are two different possible situations here, together with the difficulties associated with them. I happened to encounter both at different times, so let's look at everything in order:

Having an old mixer

How to properly remove the old device? I did it very simply:

  1. Shut off cold and hot supply water to the apartment;
  2. Carefully unscrew the clamping nuts with an adjustable wrench. At this stage it is very important to act extremely carefully so as not to damage the fittings, otherwise the volume of repair work will increase significantly;

  1. Cleaned the threads from the remnants of old winding and paint and the inside of the connecting elements protruding from the wall.

No pipes

But here you will first need to install pipes under the mixer:

  1. From the entry point to the cold and hot water pipes punched grooves in the wall using a grinder and a hammer drill;
  2. I ran plastic pipes through them, connecting the required sections using couplings by soldering. In order to find out at what height to place them, I went to read the SNiPs, and it turned out that this is 200 mm above the side of the bathtub. So I did;

In my case, the creation of the grooves took place in an empty room, but if you have all the other plumbing equipment already installed and you do not plan to take it out, then be sure to cover it with plastic film or cloth to protect it from construction debris. It is especially important to do this on an acrylic bathtub to avoid scratches on its surface.

  1. I also checked at what distance the output points should be from each other, this is 150 mm;

  1. Before securing the fittings, I make sure I checked their horizontal position using a spirit level. If this moment is missed, the mixer may ultimately be installed crookedly;
  2. Since it was planned to tile the walls in the future, I moved the edges of the couplings out of the grooves by 20 mm so that they end up flush with the finish. You will also be sure to take into account the thickness of your finishing material.

Problem #4: disassembled faucet

The bathroom faucet is sold unassembled and installed assembled. It consists of the following elements:

Element Purpose
Watering can This is a component of the soul, it is with its help that a single stream of water will be transformed into a pleasant rain of many thin streams
Spout He is also a gander or spout, directs the mixed liquid into the bath
Hose Another component of the shower that delivers water to the watering can
Main block It is here that hot liquid is mixed with cold liquid in the required proportions and the pressure power is set
Decorative lampshades Cover and decorate the connection points of the device to the pipes
Rubber gaskets Responsible for the tightness of connections
Eccentrics Allows you to align the position of the mixer if the fittings are installed with errors

I assembled all the components together, except for the eccentrics, since they are exposed when connecting to the fittings. And here, by the way, you should not use FUM tape or other means; rubber gaskets are quite enough.

Problem #5: Installation

After finishing the finishing work, I finally got to the main problem: how to install a bathroom faucet into the wall? And now, after overcoming all the above obstacles, I set about solving it:

  1. I wrapped the eccentrics with FUM tape and screwed them into the protruding fittings. Tow is also suitable for sealing the connection. I adjusted the distance between the outlet holes, which, as I noted above, should be 150 mm, and also set them horizontal using a building level. Don’t forget to measure the position of the mounted elements at every step if you don’t want to end up with a skewed faucet;

  1. Now I've screwed the whole block together. Both nuts easily fit into the threads, so I took the device back and installed decorative lampshades. If you encounter difficulties, the fixing elements are tight, then return to adjusting the eccentrics, otherwise you may damage the threaded connection;

  1. Before connecting the unit completely, I wound the FUM tape onto the threads, after which I completely completed its installation, securely tightening the clamping nuts with a wrench until a characteristic creak. You should not overtighten, as this can break the nuts; handle the tool more carefully, especially if we are talking about a silumin product;

  1. Turned on the water and checked the operation of the device. If water mixing occurs normally and there are no leaks, then you can consider the installation of the mixer on polypropylene pipes to be successfully completed.

How to install a mortise mixer? In this case, you will also need a drill with a special milling attachment in the form of a crown:

  1. Choose the most appropriate place for the faucet on the side of the bathtub and apply appropriate markings there, taking into account the dimensions of the purchased plumbing fixture;
  2. Insert the bit into the drill and drill a hole according to the marked marks;

  1. Under the mixer insert a special gasket, included with it;
  2. Installing the mixer into the created hole and secure it from below with a fastening nut, which should then be tightened tightly using an adjustable wrench. In some models, the fixation function is performed by a pin;
  3. Connect flexible hoses connecting the device to water pipes;

  1. Turn on the water and check the system.

Installing a mortise model is similar to installing a faucet on a sink, but also requires drilling the side of the bathtub.

Conclusion

All problems that arise when installing a faucet in a bathroom can be easily solved with the right approach. We selected a suitable device, prepared the tools, laid pipes or removed the old faucet, assembled a new one and connected it to the fittings or the side of the bathtub. That's it, you can safely enjoy the benefits of modern civilization.

The video in this article will allow you to familiarize yourself with some additional information regarding the topic presented. If you have any questions about the material you read, then ask them in the comments.

A kitchen is one of the rooms in a house or apartment that is used in intensive mode. The kitchen faucet is subject to significant daily stress, so it is advisable to choose a quality product.

After the choice is made, you need to figure out how to install the faucet in the kitchen, fulfilling all the engineering requirements for installation. Read about how to do this correctly in our material.

First you need to decide on the installation method: the mixer can be mounted on a countertop, sink body or on a wall. It is necessary to outline in advance the routes for the location of hot and cold water pipes.

In this case, the connection points must be accessible in case of subsequent repairs or maintenance. If you plan to install a filter, then the place for its installation must be provided in advance.

The mixer is invariably operated in tandem with the sink, so when choosing a product you need to take into account its size and depth, as well as:

  • distance between the wall and the hole for the mixer;
  • diameter of the hole for the mixer insert;
  • drain location points.

In this case, the faucet must be of sufficient length so that the end of the spout, after installation, falls on the center of the sink or sink.

The length of the spout should be equal to half the width of the sink bowl. The most ideal case is when a stream of water hits the drain directly

The height of the spout should be enough so that you can place a tall pan under the tap. But don’t go to extremes and buy a faucet that is too tall. Otherwise, splashes are created that fly outside the sink.

Another important parameter regarding the geometry of the mixer is the rotation angle. If the sink is close to the wall, then it is enough to install a faucet with a rotation angle of up to 90 degrees. If you use a sink with two bowls, then you need to pay attention to models with a rotation angle of 180-360 degrees.

Variety of styles of plumbing fixtures

Having finished with the technical part, you need to decide on the appearance. Today, the choice of faucet styles is so huge that even the most spoiled owner will be able to find a model to suit his taste.

Classic, high-tech, loft, minimalism, chopped and streamlined shapes, chrome, copper or black - you can choose an option for any kitchen.

At the same time, unfortunately, the rule applies: the more expensive, the better - especially true for plumbing fixtures and faucets in particular. There is a limit to everything, but high-quality plumbing fixtures made in Europe are an order of magnitude more expensive than domestically made products.

Determining the optimal design

When choosing, you need to take into account the design features of the mixers. The most practical models are single-lever ones, in which the flow intensity and temperature can be adjusted using one handle. Models with two valves are less practical, but go well with the classic kitchen interior.

A single lever mixer is the most practical option in the kitchen. With one movement of your hand you can adjust both the jet strength and the water temperature

Manufacturers also produce contactless products that are equipped with a motion sensor. When you raise your hands, the sensor is triggered and the mixer starts dispensing water.

For the kitchen, this is also not the most practical option, since you often have to change the temperature and collect water in containers.

Prices for faucets depend on the type of alloy used and the brand of the manufacturer. The cheapest models are made of silumin, have a beautiful appearance, but quickly wear out and become unusable. Silumin and other cheap alloys crumble and crack quite quickly.

Dismantling the old device

If you are making repairs, then first you need to dismantle the old mixer. So, having completed all the preparatory procedures, you need to find the connection points of the mixer with the water pipes. Next you need to find the places where the faucet is attached to the sink.

Using an adjustable wrench, disconnect the flexible connection of the mixer and the pipe. It is important not to forget to replace the container in time, as residual water may leak from the water supply.

If the sink is overhead, then it must be carefully removed. Before doing this, you need to disconnect the lower part of the siphon. Only after this can the sink be removed.

The sink should be turned over so that it is convenient to unscrew the faucet mount. Rust could have accumulated in these places, and the joints could stick to each other, so they should be treated with WD-40.

After waiting 10-15 minutes, you can try to unscrew the connection nuts using an adjustable wrench. First you need to slightly loosen the nuts that are on the threaded pin.

Now, using a screwdriver, you need to unscrew the threaded pin. During this operation, you need to hold the mixer with your hand so that it does not fall.

To loosen the nuts, use wrenches; the threaded pins are easily unscrewed with a screwdriver, then by hand. At the same time, analyze the condition of fasteners and flexible hoses

The mounting hole itself must be cleaned of accumulated dirt. You can recycle your old faucet and get started.

Installing a new appliance in the sink

Before installation in the kitchen, you need to attach the eyeliner to it. It is necessary to wrap tow around all connections - with its help you can seal the system as much as possible.

The tow is wound onto the threads of flexible hoses before connecting them to the mixer. You can add a drop of drying oil to the tow so that when twisting it does not stick to the base of the thread.

The mixer comes with a decorative ring gasket. It is made of metal and has a rubber layer. It is necessary to ensure that the rubber insert is installed exactly in the designated grooves of the ring. Thread the ring through the hose to the base of the faucet.

Now you can install the mixer on the sink by pulling flexible hoses through the mounting hole. It will be useful to have someone from outside to hold the faucet while you screw it to the sink. You need to thread a spacer through the liner.

To cut holes in a metal sink, special devices are used to facilitate and speed up the process. The cutting diameter is selected based on the dimensions of the mounted device

Next, screw the threaded pins through the spacer (pressure plate) into the base of the mixer, and attach nuts to the pins. Now your partner should secure the faucet in position so that you can tighten the nuts using a socket wrench (in most cases this is an 11 wrench).

The mixer has now assumed the position in which it will be used in the future. Before the final efforts to tighten the nuts, you need to make sure that all sealing gaskets have not moved and are in their places.

The sink can be installed in place, and then the connections can be connected to the appropriate fittings in the plumbing system. The pipe connections must be cleaned with sandpaper and a layer of winding applied. This can be linen thread or a roll of waterproof tape sealant.

If you choose a tape, then it must be wound overlapping. If you decide to resort to using flax thread, then you need to lubricate the threads with paste sealant and only then wind the thread.

We connect the underwater hoses to the pipe, and we clamp each connection using an adjustable wrench. Do not use excessive force when clamping to avoid stripping the threads

How to install a faucet yourself

DIY faucet installation

How to install a faucet in the bathroom or kitchen? This question is relevant for those who are planning a major home renovation or need to replace an old faucet with a new one. Of course, you can call a specialist from the management company or hire a familiar plumber, and then this question will disappear by itself. But what to do if you don’t have extra money to call a plumber or the situation is so urgent that it cannot be delayed? For example, the thread on an old faucet has worn out and it is leaking, threatening to flood the neighbors. What to do in this case?

You can fix the leak yourself and replace the old faucet with a new one.

How to install a faucet yourself without hiring a plumber?

The word “mixer” itself implies mixing hot and cold water in a tap. As a result, the output is water at the required temperature. Today, the construction market offers a huge number of models of mixers of various shapes and colors. However, the installation principle is the same for everyone. The exception is luxury plumbing, made to order and according to individual drawings and calculations. As a rule, such plumbing fixtures are quite expensive, are produced in limited quantities and are accompanied by precise and detailed instructions, which describe in detail how to secure the faucet and provide recommendations for its further use.

Required Tools

In order to do this, you will need to stock up on some tools and materials in advance. The list is quite small, and you probably already have everything you need at home, except for a new faucet. But if something is missing, it can be purchased at any hardware store. So, you will need:

  1. New mixer.
  2. Adjustable wrench.
  3. Set of open-end wrenches.
  4. Sealing tape, it is also called FUM tape.
  5. Level.
  6. A couple of eccentrics. They are used if there is a small error between the inlet fittings.

Completing of the work

Before installing the faucet you recently purchased from a hardware store, you will need to dismantle the old, worn-out mixing mechanism. To avoid leaks, you need to temporarily shut off the water riser. If you have inlet taps in your apartment, then by turning the valve, you will shut off the water. But sometimes there are situations when an old house and inlet taps do not completely shut off or cannot shut off the water due to their wear and tear. In this case, it would be reasonable to notify the management company in advance and ask it to shut off the entire riser while the new equipment is being installed.

So, all the subtleties of installing a new mixer consist of the following steps:

  1. Dismantle the old mixer. To do this, unscrew the union nuts on the pipeline in turn for cold and hot water. You need to unscrew it counterclockwise using an adjustable wrench.
  2. After the old faucet is removed, carefully inspect the pipes. The fact is that sometimes a filter material is installed between the mixer and the supply pipe. After some time, it becomes clogged with rust, dirt and other small elements, reducing the water throughput. Therefore, it would be useful to remove all foreign elements from the pipes.
  3. Install a new faucet instead of the old one. Eccentrics are screwed into the end fittings of the water supply. These parts are always included with the mixer. The need for their use arises if there was a slight error in the positioning of the inlet fittings. In order for the mixer to be installed, the center-to-center distance between the fitting entrances must be 150 mm. Wrap sealing material around the threads of the eccentrics and screw it into the water supply inlet fitting. By rotating the eccentrics, it is necessary to achieve a distance between them of 150 mm.
  4. Using a level, check the horizontal position of the installation.
  5. Screw the mixer body. This will be a test installation. Once again check the horizontal position of its position. If everything is done correctly, the union fastening nuts will be easily tightened until they stop by hand, without the use of any tools. If the nuts are difficult to tighten, adjust by slightly tightening the eccentrics.
  6. After making sure that the faucet is level, remove it and screw on the decorative faucet cups. They will allow you to hide the presence of eccentrics and the connection itself.
  7. Now insert the sealing gaskets and put the mixer body in its place.
  8. The fastening nut must be tightened with an adjustable wrench. To prevent it from scratching the surface of the mixer, place a soft cloth under the jaws of the wrench. It is not necessary to tighten the nuts too much, since the seal occurs thanks to the rubber gasket.
  9. Install the gander. Having previously covered it with a soft cloth, attach the nut to the gander and tighten it using a wrench.
  10. After inserting the gasket into the watering can hose, screw it to the mixer body. Now screw the watering can itself to the hose. Don't forget to insert the rubber gasket.
  11. Mark on the wall a place for the shower head holder. Drill holes for screws and attach a bracket that will hold the shower head.

Important! If you install water pipes yourself, then before installing the mixer, you should know that the center-to-center distance between the hot and cold water fittings must be strictly 150 mm. The location of the cold water supply should be on the left and the hot water on the right. The maximum comfortable height for placing the mixer above the bathtub is 150-200 mm, and the ideal height from the floor to the mixer itself varies between 600-800 mm.

Dismantling the old mixer and preparatory work

Before dismantling the device, it is necessary to close the valves on the central water supply. Taps are usually installed at the entrance to the apartment or under the sink. After closing the valves, drain the water, place a basin under the hoses and unscrew the nuts. Now you need to unscrew the old device. If access to it is difficult, remove the sink; in this case, you need to pull out the corrugation from the sewer and twist it into a ring near the siphon.

Now that the sink is removed, the plumber has easy access to the studs and the corkscrew nut. If it is impossible to unscrew it with a regular key, they take radical measures - cut it off with a grinder. This is especially true when connecting the mixer to old metal pipes. Next, we inspect the joints of the supply hoses to the water supply. If necessary, a factory extension cord is packed in this place, which will be the key to normal connection with the hose.

If desired, additional taps are installed on the supply pipelines to shut off the water, bypassing the central riser. When installing a plastic liner, adapters are packed.

If the device is installed on an old sink, the user must clean the adjacent area from rust and accumulated dirt. Before installing the faucet in the kitchen on the countertop, you need to take an electric drill with a crown and drill a hole in it.

Installing a new faucet

All types of taps differ in design; they can be mounted on a sink or countertop. In most models, fastening is carried out on metal studs. The kit of such a device contains brass nuts, as well as crescent-shaped gaskets. The sanitary fixture is sealed using a rubber insert of the same shape. There are models with one pin, but it is better to choose products with two locks. This design provides a more reliable fixation of the device.

Assembly

Installing a faucet in the kitchen with your own hands begins with its assembly. This device provides simultaneous supply of hot and cold water and has the appropriate mechanisms. The crane package includes:

  • valve;
  • spindle;
  • device head with rod and flywheel.

At the initial stage of work, eccentrics are installed, which are supplied by the manufacturer along with the sealant. If there is no such material, then it is necessary to wrap the tow in a thin layer, which insures the device from possible water leakage. If there are thick walls in the mixer body, threads are also wound to secure the adapters.

Installation on the sink

Soak the fiber pads in cool water for 10 minutes. Such operations are not carried out with silicone or rubber sealing elements. Next, we attach the faucet to the eccentrics using union nuts.

At the next stage of work, we install the gaskets in the right place and begin to clamp the tap, first manually, then using an adjustable wrench. During such work, distortions should not occur, so the nuts are screwed in several turns one at a time. When the installation of the kitchen faucet is completed, check its correct position and the strength of the fastening; the faucet should not wobble.

With nut fastening

This option for installing a faucet in the kitchen begins with attaching the faucet itself to the sink. The device comes with a rubber seal in the form of a ring, which is inserted into a groove on the mixer body. After this, we screw the product into the thread on the sink and install a rubber gasket at the bottom. Next, screw the brass nut with the skirt down and press the sealing element. We tighten the nut with a wrench until we ensure that the mixer is in a stationary position on the sink.

At the next stage of work, we begin to secure the hoses. We screw them into the thread using a No. 10 key. There is no need to wind the tow onto the thread; just install a rubber sealing ring. Tighten the hoses carefully so as not to destroy the material. After this, the supply pipes are connected to the pipes with hot and cold water.

With stud fastening

In this case, flexible hoses are installed on the mixer before it is installed on the sink. In the absence of such operations, the plumber will not be able to tighten them efficiently.

Installation of a faucet in the kitchen takes place in the following order:

  1. Remove the nuts from the studs and tighten the threaded parts at the end of the faucet. The screwing depth of the thread is within 8-10 millimeters.
  2. We try on a shaped gasket and a steel plate on a stud.
  3. We pass flexible hoses through the holes with the fittings facing up.
  4. We control the presence and position of the rubber sealing ring on the tap.
  5. We screw in the hose fittings, first the short one and then the long one.
  6. We install the faucet in the sink or countertop, install a metal gasket and a sealing gasket at the bottom, attach and tighten the nuts.
  7. Tighten the nuts on the studs well. The mixer should not wobble.
  8. We control the tightness of the connection.

After installing the mixer, we fix the sink on the countertop in its original position.

To secure the sanitary fixture to the countertop, you need to prepare the following tool:

  • set of drills;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • electric drill.

Now we will learn how to install a faucet in the kitchen on the countertop. First you need to determine the location of its attachment. After the sanitary fixture is securely fastened, liquid should not spill onto the countertop, and the user should be able to comfortably use the lever.

Next, take a pencil and make markings on the countertop where the sanitary fixture is attached. Now we make four holes with a drill, then turn on the jigsaw to cut the hole. We clean the cut area from sawdust and dust, and rub the edges. At the final stage of work, we place an o-ring and a washer, and screw the mixer to the countertop.

Connection to communications

We have learned how to install a faucet in the kitchen, now we will look at how to connect it to utilities. First, we tighten the eccentrics that connect the mixer to the pipes. To prevent condensation from forming between the hot and cold water hoses, it is necessary to leave a distance of 15 centimeters.

Tow is wrapped around the thread and coated with sealant. Fum tape can be used for the same purpose. After this, screw the mixer nuts onto the eccentrics and secure the special cover. This element must be secured manually; it must fit well to the wall. If there is a gap of less than 5 millimeters, the tap is disconnected and the eccentrics are shortened to the required length.

Next, install paronite, rubber or silicone gaskets into the housing nut, which will ensure a tight fit of the mixer to the eccentrics. At the final stage of the work, the nuts of the inlet pipes for hot and cold water are tightened manually; if a leak is detected during the check, they are additionally tightened with a wrench.

Functionality check

After the faucet is installed in the kitchen, it is necessary to check its functionality. To do this, open the valves for supplying hot and cold water and inspect the attachment points of the flexible hoses. If leaks occur, tighten the nuts. When carrying out testing, it is necessary to turn the tap on and off, turn the lever and check the efficiency of mixing water.

When installing a faucet in the kitchen, try not to twist the supply flexible hoses. Always ensure that gaskets are present in the required places on the plumbing fixture and on the threaded connections. The biggest mistake is to over-tighten the nut at the junction of the hose and the supply pipeline. Rubber gaskets are installed in these places, they are tightened by hand, and only when a leak appears can the nuts be gently pressed with a wrench.
