Preparation of surfaces for installation

In the repair, the first stage of work is important - the preparation of the base. Having made a mistake at the very beginning, you will get an undesirable result at the end. For slopes, it is very important to prepare a surface that will serve as the foundation for the entire future structure.

  1. Cleaning the base for the installation of slopes. Any sharp object is used to remove the remaining beads of polyurethane foam. If there are large chips, they should be covered. gypsum plaster or a cement mixture. The surface is impregnated with an antifungal primer - this will protect against unwanted processes.
  2. Protection of polyurethane foam in the seams. All seams that have been sealed with foam must be plastered. For this we use a plaster mix and a small spatula.
  3. Drywall is afraid of moisture, so you should check all the joints between the window and the window opening. It can blow through a small gap, as a result, condensation will form, which leads to the gradual destruction of the drywall sheet.
  4. To obtain the ideal level of the slope, a special corner is screwed to the window frame around the entire perimeter. The sheet should be fastened using ordinary self-tapping screws. This trick will help you avoid a lot of area loss. window frame.

Installation of plasterboard window slopes

The most important and crucial stage. The final result of all work depends on the quality of its execution.

  • The exact dimensions of the required sections are made.
  • Now you need to correctly and accurately cut a solid plasterboard sheet into the desired parts. To begin with, cut out the upper part of the slope. Mounting holes are drilled if necessary. The resulting strip is applied to the installation site, outlined with a pencil. Then it is exhibited using a building level.
  • The remaining side and bottom parts are cut in the same way.

The sheet is fastened in two ways:

  • drywall is glued with special mounting glue;
  • it is attached to a galvanized profile frame.

Creation of a slope by pasting

This method does not require a start profile. It is applicable when the surface is sufficiently flat, but it is rather difficult to create a slope by pasting.

  1. All details of the future slope are cut out.
  2. The top is installed first. A special guide corner is screwed to it in advance, into which its upper part is inserted and glued. Precise installation will allow you not to make a mistake during the further installation of the side elements.
  3. The rest of the elements are glued.

In most cases, the glue is applied to the entire surface. Usually, the approximate drying time for a particular brand of mounting adhesive is indicated on the packaging. If there is a need to shorten the setting time, then the glue is spread in stripes. All work is monitored using a building level.

Installing a slope on a frame from a profile

Attaching the slope to the frame allows very curved and curved surfaces to be leveled. The starting profile serves as the basis for the entire structure. The work algorithm is as follows:

  • Installation of guide profiles. The entire perimeter of the window frame is framed by the starting profile (UD). It is installed perpendicular to the floor. The profile should be fastened with self-tapping screws in increments of 50-60 cm.

If the frame is attached directly to the window frame, then a heat-insulating gasket is placed between it and the profile. It will help prevent the guides from freezing.

  • Guides (CD) are attached perpendicularly to the starting profile. They are fixed with self-tapping screws on drywall with a length of 30–35 mm.
  • The assembled structure made of galvanized profiles is sheathed with plasterboard sheets. As a result, small gaps are formed between the slope and the wall or lintel. It is recommended to fill them with glue for working on drywall.

Finishing plasterboard slope

As a result of the work carried out, a flat slope surface was obtained. But without finishing it will look untidy. In 90% of cases, latex putty is used for cosmetic repairs and water-based paint.

  • All corners of the window opening are closed with a special perforated corner profile... It will protect them from chipping and loss of appearance as a result of abrasion. The profile thickness is only 0.5-1 mm. It should be glued with glue on drywall.
  • The entire surface to be glued is carefully coated to avoid the formation of voids, which can lead to subsequent deformation of the slope angle. The corner is strongly pressed into the glue, the excess is removed with a rag or spatula.
  • All corners and caps of the twisted screws are carefully putty. applied in two layers. It is important to let each layer dry for 3-4 hours.
  • When the putty is dry, the surface of the slope must be sanded. To do this, you can use a sander. If this is not at hand, then grinding is done with a net for putty or sandpaper. You should not be too zealous, latex putty is easy to process and sand.
  • After sanding is completed, the slopes must be covered with deep penetration soil. It will saturate the entire surface and make it uniform. In addition, the primer reduces paint consumption and guarantees uniformity of color over the entire area.
  • The last step is painting the finished slopes. It is recommended to use a water-based paint with a water-resistant effect. Reconciliation of this type of material will make it possible to wet the window.

The most common mistake is the gaps between the drywall sheets at the joints. They appear from inaccurate measurements or errors in cutting. They are eliminated with liquid plastic, but the surface will no longer be completely monolithic - the joints will be noticeable.

Slopes represent interior walls window opening. In most cases, these surfaces are equipped with a slight slope towards the room. When replacing double-glazed windows, the slopes are usually damaged. It is not convenient to restore destroyed surfaces with plaster in all situations, therefore, more and more often, owners are opting for drywall slopes. This material avoids all the difficulties and inconveniences inherent in plastering work.

What do you need to work?

First of all, you need to prepare sheets of drywall suitable for such work. The best option is a moisture resistant material with a thickness of 12.5 mm.

If the method of fixing drywall to the frame is chosen, buy the corresponding UD and CD profiles. Fix the profiles using screws and dowels. If using the pasting method, buy a special drywall glue. For 1 m 2 of drywall, an average of about 5 kg of adhesive is consumed. The specific value is determined individually in accordance with the brand of the used binder and the condition of the surface to be trimmed.



Additionally, you will need a sealing tape.

The set of tools is standard. Prepare the following accessories:

  • grinder. Needed for cutting a metal profile. In the absence of a grinder, you can do with scissors for cutting metal;
  • puncher;
  • knife for cutting drywall sheets;
  • metal square;
  • measuring tape;
  • building level.

Preparatory activities

Take all measurements first. In the process of preparing sheets of material for the design of slopes, leave small allowances.


It is extremely difficult to provide an absolutely flat base in the places where the finishing is installed, therefore it is better to take the material with a margin and cut off the excess in the future, rather than discover that part of the sheet is not enough to cover the entire surface of the slope.

Regardless of the chosen method of finishing the slopes with plasterboard, carry out preliminary preparation of the surface to be decorated. Be sure to remove the existing plaster coat.


In the case of using the gluing method, the surface must be carefully leveled. To do this, you can use an ordinary one.

When using the wireframe method, pre-alignment can be dispensed with in most cases. It is enough just to get rid of the crumbling areas of the plaster coating.

Treat the base with an antifungal agent.

After completing all the preliminary measures, you can proceed directly to the fastening of drywall sheets according to the selected method.

Frame method for finishing slopes


When using this finishing method, the work should start with the arrangement of the vertical decorative elements.


First step

At the edges of the window opening, fasten the guides perpendicular to the floor. Use a UD profile for this step. Fix with self-tapping screws in increments of 40-50 cm.

If the guide is fastened to the frame of the plastic window, be sure to place a sealing tape between the profile and the surface of the glass unit. It will prevent the profile from freezing in cold weather.

Second step

Position the CD guides perpendicular to the UD profiles.

Third step

Sew up the frame with drywall sheets.




Fourth step

Start finishing the top of the opening. The work is carried out in a similar manner.

If the window slope has a shallow depth, it is best to fix the guide profile on three sides - on the finished finishing elements and on the frame of the glass unit.

After completion of the work, approximately a centimeter gap will remain between the trim sheet and the outer part of the lintel. Fill it with a special drywall glue.


Finish the slopes at your discretion. Usually they are putty or painted.

Glue method of finishing slopes


The glue method of finishing the slopes with plasterboard is more difficult to implement in comparison with the previously considered method. To perform such work well, you need to have some skills to accurately ensure the slope of the surfaces.



Finishing should begin by fixing the upper slope. In this case, it will take over the functions of a "guide" for the correct installation of the side elements.



Fit pieces to each side of the slope and glue them to the pre-leveled and dried surface.


In most situations, the adhesive must be applied in a continuous layer. If the surface of the substrate is even and you need to shorten the drying time of the adhesive, apply the adhesive in wide strips. Align the trim sheets to the level. Install the pre-prepared supports while the glue dries. The specific drying time of the mixture is indicated on the package. Be sure to clarify this point in a separate order.


Finishing works

Plasterboard slopes need to be made more attractive and aesthetic appearance.

First of all, smooth out all the bulges that appear at the points of laying the adhesive mixture using a special trowel for working with drywall. Level the recesses with putty.

Cover the leveled and dried surface with a primer. If necessary, apply the primer in a double layer.

If desired, the slopes can be painted. Coloring compositions are best applied using a hand-held brush or a special roller that can give the surface a beautiful rough structure.

Fastening with a metal profile

First, a metal profile is set on a level, horizontal and vertical. Next, the element itself is cut and cut to the desired size using a clerical knife.

To do this, in accordance with the specified dimensions, pencil marks are made, along these lines the drywall is cut with a knife, then the sheet is turned over and lightly pressed on it so that it gently breaks along the cut line. After that, the lower part of the plaster is trimmed.

After filling the space between the gypsum and the wall, drywall is screwed on by means of self-tapping screws. For better bonding, the joints are glued with a serpyanka, on top of which a layer of finishing putty is applied.

To strengthen the angle between the wall and the slope, a perforated corner is used. It can be fixed with a stapler or planted on a putty solution. After complete drying, sanding is done to a uniform state of the plane using sandpaper and a special grater. At the last stage, two layers of paint are applied.

For the final finishing of the slope, you can use acrylic or oil paint... Sticking wallpaper on the slope is also suitable. At the final stage, when working with windows, it is recommended to seal the seam between the drywall and the window frame with a special sealant, which will not allow the putty to peel off and lose its appearance over time.

The advantages of using a metal profile include speed and cleanliness of work. As disadvantages, one can note the narrowing of the window opening due to the insertion of the profile and the need to fill the void between the wall and drywall.

Fastening with polyurethane foam

This method of fixing drywall is not very common. It is used when there is no place for installing a metal profile, or the material from which the wall is made is not able to withstand the dowel-nails. In this case, polyurethane foam comes to the rescue. She adheres the plaster firmly to the wall.

As you know, polyurethane foam tends to expand and protrude, therefore, a reliable temporary fixation of drywall elements by means of long self-tapping screws is necessary. On the side panels, the mixture can be applied pointwise, every 20 cm. This will save material and the drying time of the slope.

If additional fixation of the plaster is necessary, you can resort to using self-tapping screws with long caps, which will need to be unscrewed at the end of the work. The pluses of fastening drywall with putty include ease of work. The downside is that this finishing method is not suitable for all surfaces. So, the putty does not stick to the wooden plane.

Preparation for finishing

Before making drywall slopes, you will need to prepare a window or door. Door slope from drywall and window, in terms of preparation, are almost the same, but for doors the following is taken into account:

  1. The presence of communications. For example, wires for the Internet, electricity or a bell. The installation is done before the installation of the doorway begins.
  2. Possibility to install second doors for entry. The need arises if the insulation of the first door is not carried out, and the sound insulation of the doors does not matter.

Opening preparation is as follows:

  1. When the old window or door has been dismantled, a new product has been installed, the foam remains, its remnants are cut off.
  2. Plaster and other protruding parts on the window, doors are removed with a hammer or other device. Often there can be a metal pin and other elements under the plaster, they are cut off.
  3. The gap, hole and other defects of the opening must be putty.
  4. The joints that appear between the window frame or interior doors must be coated with a sealant.
  5. After the putty and other mixtures have dried, the primer is applied in two layers along the perimeter of the opening.

At the end preparatory work complete cleansing of the opening from dirt is carried out. Everything is swept and wiped off. In order not to damage the window or door frame, it is sealed with masking tape and cardboard.


The frame design method is convenient and practical. True, the installation of the material is somewhat more complicated, because the p-profile needs to be fixed with self-tapping screws, which is more difficult and longer in time. The fixation is carried out reliably, everything is screwed in flush with the drywall, so that the frame is strong. Step-by-step you can independently make the crate of the opening as follows:

  1. Wooden strips or metal profiles are used for the frame.
  2. The material is cut to fit the opening. It is necessary to install slats along the entire perimeter of the slope, on the inner and outer corner... For reliability, transverse strips are attached.
  3. If desired, a heater is placed in the frame, in the form of mineral wool, it is installed in ready-made cells.
  4. The cut-to-size drywall sheets are now fixed. Trimming is carried out only if the fabrication of the frame is completed.
  5. At the end, sheathing with plasterboard sheets is carried out directly to the profile or slats.

The advantage of this method is the need for facing the slope and adjacent walls. The disadvantage of the method is to reduce the space in the opening, especially when it comes to the door.

Glue method of finishing slopes


There is an option to design a slope using glue solution or putty. Instructions on how to glue drywall are presented below:

  1. Put putty or glue on the cut parts. When using putty, it is better to use a finishing compound. The material is applied around the perimeter and a little in the middle.
  2. Prepared slopes are moistened with water and drywall can be glued to the slope. Initially, the top element is installed, and then the side parts.
  3. When the wall and drywall are connected, you can press down the sheet and shake it slightly to the sides, so that the glue spreads, and the drywall itself sticks.
  4. If the sheet is fixed tightly and does not move, then everything is left until it solidifies completely. On the advice of the masters, it is better to wait about a day or even two. In case of unreliable fixation of drywall, it is recommended to support it with strips at the edges and in the middle. When the mixture is dry, the planks are removed.

The disadvantages of the method are similar to those of the frame technology, but the advantages are obvious: the work is done faster, not so costly, and as the reviews show, the established slope lasts 10 years, nothing lags behind the walls. Outside, the glue is immediately removed if it comes out, until it hardens.

Installation on polyurethane foam


The slope can be closed by fixing the drywall with polyurethane foam. The sealing is very simple, but it is used if there are few defects on the slopes and the pits are small in size, up to 3 cm.With large sizes, the defects must be filled with foam before installation, the correct method of sealing potholes is using cement mortar or a starting type of plaster. You need to sew like this:

  1. Dismantle the old coating, plaster and foam residues. Further, large potholes are filled.
  2. When the pits are dry, the polyurethane foam is applied to the drywall from the back of the material. A layer of foam no more than 1 cm. The application of the material is done in the form of a snake.
  3. Plasterboard material is placed on the slope and pressed against it. The pressure on the drywall must be strong so that the foam grabs onto the slope.
  4. After that, the drywall comes off, and on the slope and finishing material foam remains. After 10 minutes, the foam will increase in size.

This method allows you to get a practical surface, but it is important to know that the material is fastened with self-tapping screws or dowels. Therefore, it is necessary to adhere to some rules, for example, the screws must be screwed without deepening on the surface, but flush.

Creation of the lathing:

  • it is necessary to arm yourself with wooden beams or metal profiles;
  • segments are cut from the guides, the dimensions of which were obtained during measurements;

  • drywall elements are installed only after the crate has been created;
  • self-tapping screws fix all parts to the surface.

Glue method

This method of installation, at first glance, seems simple, but there are some difficulties, for example, it is necessary to observe the angles of inclination when gluing the elements. It is recommended to use the glue method when there is a need to maintain the original dimensions of the window openings.

The advantages of the glue method include:

  • minimum amount of materials;
  • before painting the surface, it is enough just to putty the slopes.

Plasterboard slopes are coated with glue. To prevent the adhesive composition from spreading after pressing the element to the surface, the adhesive should be applied in a non-continuous layer to the drywall.
